This one little hat was done and out the door before I even had time to get more than the one picture of it - which is nice, but I haven't really had the time to work it again, which means this lonely little photograph is all I have of it. Still, I'm attached. The cable stitch is one of my favorite things, and I know it might not be what people think of when they hear 'cable stitch' - like me, they probably think of the kind that requires front and back post double/treble crochet and makes a relief against the flat fabric. But this is a lot more fun! And a lot easier to keep track of. I was doing a lot of hat there's for a while - and if you go back a while among my patterns, you can probably tell! Most of the hats posted here were started and made at the same time, and then it's taken me a while to get the written pattern to a place where it'll make sense to more than just me. So, here's the Vitalba Slouch, originally named Frans, but everyone needs a working name, right? Supplies:
Pattern notes: The starting ch3 in the actual pattern of the hat will be at the join/back of the hat and will be a lonely little chain unconnected to anything. Abbreviations (US terminology): CH - chain SC - single crochet ST - stitch SL - slip stitch DC - double crochet DC2TOG - double crochet two together How to work the cable stitch, tutorial by the stitchin' mommy Pattern Brim: Row 1 Ch 9, sc in the second ch from the hook, and across, (8 sc) Row 2-65 Ch 1, sc in back loop only (8 st) Fold over and slip stitch the ends together to make a tube. Ch 1, and turn right side out Hat: Row 1 Sc 68 evenly across the brim, (68) sl to join Row 2 Ch 3, skip same st as starting chain, and the next st, dc in the next 3 st, work 1 dc into the stitch that was just skipped +skip 1 st (be careful and make sure you don’t skip the st of the last dc of the 3 dc’s), dc in next 3 st, work 1 dc into the stitch that was just skipped++ repeat from + to ++ around, sl to ch 3 to join Row 3 Ch 1, sc in each st across, (68) sl to join Row 4-16 Repeat row 2 and 3, ending on a repeat of row 2. OBS: In the repeats of the pattern (aka, on row 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16) you will ch 3, and only skip the same st as your starting chain. So not skipping the next st, but only the ch st and dc in the first actual st. Row 18 Ch 1, dc2tog, dc in 2 st, +dc2tog, dc in next 2++ repeat from + to ++, sl to join Row 19 Ch 2, dc2tog in each st across, sl to join Row 20 Ch 2, dc2tog in each st across, sl to join, fasten off Finish Fasten off and cut yarn, then cut a second piece of long yarn and thread on a needle. Turn the hat inside out, weave in the tops of stitches, and pull together the hat. Fasten with a couple of stitches to make sure it stays together. Fasten off and weave in ends. Please let me know if anything doesn't add up. I will translate and post the SWE version of this pattern in due time along with a few more sizes in english. Meanwhile, follow me on instagram and pinterest for more crocheting goofiness. If you do follow me, pretty please tag me on instagram if you make it - I'd love to see your take on this! Happy crocheting, Jenn

Thank you for a wonderful pattern. I just made this hat it took me about 2 hours. Just so you know row 17 is missing. I assumed it was a single crochet row. Row two with the skipped stitched was confusing. I only did 1 skipped stitch and it worked out fine.
