For Christmas last year, 2017, my mother's sister Eva wanted to give her daughter something she needed; a scarf. But not just something traditional and boring, as she put it. She wanted something made for Caroline, something different. Once I found a yarn that I liked for the project, the cowl almost made itself. I was on a mini bean stitch kick at the time, and the texture of this cowl is soft and fluffy, it keeps nice and warm even in the coldest south Swedish winter weather but breathes as well. Luckily, Caroline loves it, and i have to say I do too. It worked up so lovely, it's hard not to love it. Supplies:
Abbreviations (US terminology): CH - chain BEAN ST - mini bean stitch (tutorial by hopeful honey) SL - slip stitch ST - stitch Pattern:
Row 1 Ch 41, insert hook in 3 ch from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop in same st, yarn over and pull through all loops, ch 1, +sk 1, pull up a loop in next st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all loops, ch 1++ repeat from + to ++ until end of the row, ch 1 more (20 mini bean stitches, 19 ch 1, 1 ch 2) Row 2 In the side of the last bean st of the previous row, insert hook, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull up another loop in the same st, yarn over and pull through all loops, ch 1, +sk 1, pull up a loop in next st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all loops, ch 1++ repeat from + to ++ until end of the row where you put the bean st between the ch 2 at the start of last row and the bean st, ch 1 more (20 mini bean stitches, 19 ch 1, 1 ch 2) Row 3-?? Repeat row 2 - I repeated row 2 until my yarn almost ran out, then I used the last of it to sl st the ends together. If you want an even longer cowl you just keep going and going until you're satisfied. After the last row of mini bean st, fasten all threads and sew the two ends together for a cowl, or leave as is for a cozy scarf or wrap. Please let me know if anything doesn't add up. I will translate and post the SWE version of this pattern in due time. Meanwhile, follow me on instagram and pinterest for more crocheting goofiness. If you do follow me, pretty please tag me on instagram if you make it - I'd love to see your take on this! Happy crocheting, Jenn
