Since the Arisarum gave my next hat its name, I figured it was appropriate to show you why. I found this picture of the Arisarum Proboscideum on burncoose.co.uk. To me, the Arisarum looks a little like the neck of a swan in the shape. But at the same time not, because it's got a thicker part, and a thinner part - that's off to the side a bit. Which really explains the offset shell stitch I used for the Arisarum slouchy perfectly. I've only made this slouch in a few different shades of blue - and a very lovely shade of dark red. Guess where that idea came from? This was another nameless pattern that I gave a silly place-holder (bluebird) when I wrote it up on Ravelry before I got the chance to really write it down. It's a little bit like the Helleborine Slouch, but far lacier! Supplies:
Abbreviations (US terminology): HDC - half double crochet SC - single crochet DC - double crochet SL - slip stitch ST - stitch DC3TOG - double crochet three together DC2TOG - double crochet two together Pattern
Brim: Row 1 Ch 9, hdc in 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in each st across (8 hdc) Row 2-46 Ch 1, hdc in both loops of first hdc, hdc in back loops only of next 6 hdc, hdc in both loops of last hdc. Repeat until you have 46 rows. Fold the brim and slip stitch the ends together. Don’t cut yarn! Hat: Row 1 Ch 1, sc 72 times evenly across the brim - putting ca 3 sc in every 2 rows of hdc. Sl to join Row 2 Ch 3, (2 DC, ch 1, DC) in the same st as starting chain, +skip 3 st, (3 DC, ch 1, DC) in next st;++ Repeat from + to ++ across. You’ll have three unworked stitches at the end of the round. Sl to ch 3 to join. Row 3 Slip stitch into the first ch 1 space, ch 3, dc 2, ch 1, dc all in same ch 1 space. (3 DC, ch 1, DC) in next ch 1 space, and in each ch 1 space around. Sl to ch 3 to join. Row 4-9 Repeat row 3 Row 10 Ch 3, and in the next 3 double crochet dc3tog, dc in ch 1 space, skip last dc in the shell, +dc3tog, dc in ch 1 sp, sk last dc in shell++ repeat from + to ++ around, sl to top of ch 3 to join. Row 11 Ch 3, dc3tog around, sl to top of ch 3 to join Row 12 Ch 3, dc2tog around, sl to top of ch 3 to join Finish Fasten off and cut yarn, then cut a second piece of long yarn and thread on a needle. Turn the hat inside out, weave in the tops of stitches, and pull together the hat. Fasten with a couple of stitches to make sure it stays together. Fasten off and weave in ends.
